This house sits on a steep, rugged, and heavily forested site dramatized by the simple form of the house.

The butterfly roof and high windows open the house to uphill views on both sides. The entertainment and bedroom wings sit parallel to each other to take up the least amount of width on the slope without making the house too long.

The deck wraps the entertainment wing and provides for a comfortable indoor-outdoor flow of space. In the evening, the interior lights provide plenty of illumination for entertaining on the deck.

The kitchen features pre-made birch cabinets. Beyond is a six panel door opened to the deck. This home was built for significantly less money than one would imagine, which is something we are quite proud of.

A deck runs along almost the entire length of the downhill side, with spectacular mountain views in three directions. An outdoor fireplace extends the times when it can be enjoyed.

Smaller places within the larger, single volume afford a variety of spatial experiences.

Special places for the display of the owners’ modern art collection have been thoughtfully created throughout the house.

The stair is lined with a wall of slate. The flooring is beech and the railing is painted steel.
